Bourse de Commerce

In the heart of Paris, the transformation of the Bourse de Commerce adapts a historic monument to its new role as a contemporary art museum for the Pinault Collection. The project preserves and restores the building’s successive heritage layers — its metal structure, glass dome, decorative features and façades — while integrating new exhibition spaces, a basement auditorium, circulation areas and the technical facilities required for the museum.

The contemporary intervention is organised around a 29-metre-diameter, 9-metre-high concrete cylinder inserted into the centre of the rotunda without altering the historic structure. It accommodates an exhibition space and creates a circular passage between its walls and the existing façades, connecting the galleries and offering new perspectives on the building and its dome. Beyond its spatial role, the cylinder also integrates technical systems for ventilation, lighting and acoustics.
