SMAC (Contemporary Music Venue)
The new contemporary music venue (SMAC), located in the ZAC Quai Saint-Serge in Angers (49), occupies a strategic position at the interface between the Saint-Serge park and a new district. Its role is both urban and landscape: it is a pivot between the planted flood plain of Saint-Serge, the district under construction and the Maine river.
The project comprises the construction of a building of around 3,000 sqm of floor area, including two performance halls, a large hall with a capacity of 1,200 people and a small hall with a capacity of 350 people, reception spaces, studios, performance logistics spaces, coordination spaces and building logistics spaces.
The singular identity of the SMAC is given by the design of the façades, made up of large surfaces in pale concrete with large panels of openwork timber slats and fully glazed recessed loggias. The roof, visible from the surrounding buildings, taller than the SMAC, is designed as a landscape made up of planted beds with service paths.
